Description

Bran Castle it’s an amazing example of 14th century Gothic architecture that looks like it was carefully placed on top of a mountain.

It was here that Dracula ( the legendary hero, inspired by Vlad Tepes – the Romanian ruler who defended this part of Transylvania)  was imprisoned in 1462 by the Hungarian king Matei Corvin.
The castle was used to protect the border between 2 provinces: Transylvania and Wallachia. It was donated in 1920 to the royal family of Romania, Queen Maria and King Ferdinand.

After visiting the Bran castle, we continue our visit to the picturesque area and make a stop in Brasov, the popular Saxon-rich town. Here, one cannot miss the historic centre of Brasov’s historic centre, still largely surrounded by medieval stone walls hiding baroque façades and churches with sword marks on their walls ( as legend says).

We will take lunch in a traditional restaurant and continue our drive to Prahova’s shining star – Sinaia. Named after Mt. Sinai and once the residential place of the first king of Romania , Sinaia boasts many century-old villas and hotels, built to impress the king’s gaze. The setting is marvelous, starting with the centre of the town, which becomes more and more commercial, the name of “ The Carpathians’ Pearl” becomes more true if one takes the cable car and heads up to 2000 meters to access brilliant trails and ski runs of the impressive Bucegi Mountains.

None outweighs the marvel of King Carol I’st Peles Castle, one of the region’s highlights, that cannot be missed for a visit. It’s over-the-top opulent with 160 rooms, a lot of them with different themes, like the Turkish and Moorish salons, rooms designed in Baroque and Rococo.

Amazing carved and inlaid wood floors, panels, and ceilings, statues, paintings, armour and weapons, luxurious furniture, leaded glass windows. From the outside, the castle looks like a really nice hunting lodge with statues and fountains on the grounds, and an elegant clock tower. It is situated on a hill surrounded by rich forests and the towering peaks of the Carpathians. It gives a whole new meaning to “living like a king.” There’s an Orthodox monastery nearby where the royal family lived while Peles Palace was being built.

We will not miss to visit the Orthodox church Sinaia, built in the 17-th century by Mihai Cantacuzino, after he returned from the sacred places of Israel (Jerusalem, Mt. Sinai) and being so impressed of them, he promised himself to build this monastery to bear the name of Sinai.
